1. Why hire a professional vendor?
Although it is true that we never live the same exact day more than once, in general, we get another shot to do it all over again. There are certain days, however, that are special and meant to be celebrated unlike the rest. These are the days that we only get one opportunity to make special and memorable. A birthday, a wedding, an anniversary…whatever it may be, we cannot afford to take chances. Why risk such a special occasion with questionable vendors? With higher stakes on the line, it is always best to hire a professional and, most importantly, experienced vendor that will be able to take over so you can sit back and enjoy your special day without a worry.

2. How did you get started with your business?
-Sometimes, in life, things just fall into place. This is certainly the case with Continental Catering’s inception. Denise, our founder and president, and her mother began doing small-scale catering for friends and family out of their kitchen. It didn’t take long for the duo’s moxie and talent to propel the company’s success. Thirty years later, and thousands of successful catered events under our belt, Continental Catering continues to be a great value for happy clients throughout San Diego county.

3. What inspires you in your field of expertise?
-Being in the hospitality industry, we are not immune to event trends. When we are not perusing through the latest issue of bon appétit magazine we are definitely finding inspiration from our colleagues in the industry. More than anything though, we are constantly inspired by our clients and the amazing events we are able to be a part of.

4. What is the most challenging and rewarding part about your job?
-Contrary to popular belief, doing parties for a living is not always, well, a party. We are passionate about what we do and thus take the responsibility handed to us very seriously. We want to make sure we deliver nothing but exceptional quality and service to each and every one of our clients. So that said, being a large-scale caterer, making sure that we deliver the same attention to detail to all our clients when we are juggling upwards of 15 events a week can definitely be challenging to say the least. On the other hand, ending the week knowing that we contributed to making our clients’ events extra special, and to see them so satisfied with our service makes it all worth it.

5. What does a typical day at work consist of?
-We’re not sure that in catering there is such a thing as ‘a typical day’ but we usually start our day by checking our voicemail and email inbox to make sure that there are no pressing issues that need to be addressed immediately. Our sales team toils away making sure that potential clients receive their requested proposals, and if there is an event that day, there are last minute checks to make sure everything is in tip-top shape. Occasionally (more often than not) there are midday chocolate breaks; this is what keeps us sane.

6. What makes you successful and stand out from the rest?
-Fair warning: we may be a bit biased when answering this question. Don’t all caterers believe they offer the best value and quality? The difference between us and other caterers is that we actually do offer an unbeatable value. We are not only capable of producing mouthwatering fare but we are decor geniuses. Our presentation is second-to-none, if we do say so ourselves. We source the highest quality ingredients for our clients of all budgets. We don’t nickel-and-dime them. We include equipment (i.e. china and flatware) that other caterers often charge for. Like we said, unbeatable value.

7. What was the most memorable event that you have done?
-At the risk of sounding super clichéd we have to answer this one by saying that there isn’t just one memorable event; they are all special in their own way. We know. So cheesy. But who doesn’t love cheese, right?!

8. What has been your biggest accomplishment within your company?
-Honestly, it is hard to single out an extraordinary accomplishment. Over the years there have been too many highlights to list, but at the moment we are beyond thrilled and proud of the fact that, as of May 2014, we have officially been in business for three decades. For the last 30 years we have catered hundreds of events and met thousands of wonderful people. We can’t think of a bigger professional accomplishment than that.
